Eagles of Death Metal sono un gruppo rock garage americano formatosi a Palm Desert, California, nel 1998 da Jesse Hughes e Josh Homme. Nonostante il nome, non sono una band death metal. La storia del nome deriva da un amico che cercava di introdurre Josh Homme al genere death metal. Quando suonò una canzone della band polacca Vader e affermò che fosse death metal, Homme li chiamò "Eagles of Death Metal". Dopo aver sentito questa frase, si chiese come sarebbe suonata una combinazione tra gli Eagles e una band death metal. In un'intervista del 2003, Homme descrisse il suono della band come una miscela di "slide guitar bluegrass mescolato a ritmi da strip club e voci di Canned Heat".
