Commander Venus è stata una band emo americana proveniente da Omaha, Nebraska. Il gruppo era composto da Conor Oberst e Tim Kasher alla voce, Todd Fink e Matt Bowen dei The Faint, Ben Armstrong di Head of Femur e Robb Nansel, produttore esecutivo dell'etichetta indipendente Saddle Creek. Kasher ha successivamente guidato la band Cursive, mentre Oberst è diventato famoso come membro principale del collettivo folk indie Bright Eyes e in seguito della punk band Desaparecidos. Commander Venus ha pubblicato un album di debutto omonimo nel 1998, caratterizzato da sonorità emotive e melodie orecchiabili. Tra i brani più rappresentativi si ricordano 'The Ballad of the Broken Heart', 'A Thousand Years' e 'I Don't Know What to Say'.
