Johnny Pacheco (1935-2021) è stato un musicista, produttore discografico e leader di banda dominicano, considerato uno dei pilastri della musica salsa americana. Nato a Santo Domingo, si trasferì negli Stati Uniti all'età di 18 anni, dove iniziò la sua carriera musicale suonando il sassofono in diverse band latine. Nel 1968 fondò Fania Records, un'etichetta discografica che divenne il fulcro della salsa nel mondo. Pacheco fu anche il direttore musicale di Fania All-Stars, una superband composta dai migliori musicisti del genere. La sua influenza sulla musica salsa è immensa: ha contribuito a definire lo stile musicale, ha scoperto e promosso numerosi artisti e ha prodotto alcuni dei dischi più importanti della storia del genere. Tra i suoi brani più rappresentativi ricordiamo "El Cantante", "Quitate La Ropa" e "Alma Con Alma". Pacheco è stato insignito di numerosi premi e riconoscimenti, tra cui il Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award nel 2018.
