Freddy Fender è stato un cantante e chitarrista statunitense di origini messicane, noto per la sua musica tex-mex che fondeva elementi di country, rock and roll e blues. Nato come Baldemar Huerta nel 1937 a San Benito, Texas, Fender iniziò la sua carriera musicale negli anni '50 suonando in band locali. Nel 1960 ottenne il suo primo successo con "Before the Next Teardrop Falls", un brano che divenne un classico del genere tex-mex e gli valse una nomination ai Grammy Awards. Nel corso della sua carriera Fender ha collaborato con artisti come Merle Haggard e Willie Nelson, ed è stato uno dei pionieri nel portare la musica tex-mex a un pubblico più ampio. Tra i suoi brani più famosi ricordiamo anche "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights", "The Ballad of the Alamo" e "You'll Lose That Girl". Fender è morto nel 2006 all'età di 69 anni.
