Biography

Mario Cafarelli (Portici, October 29, 1974) is an Italian musician and composer. Since childhood, he has cultivated a passion for poetry, music, and art. In 1983, he won the Diodato Del Gaizo poetry prize with "Portici". He began studying music influenced by the Neapolitan music scene of the 1980s and 1990s. Initially a percussionist and drummer, he evolved as a guitarist thanks to the teachings of Raffaele Cangiano and Vincenzo Cafarelli. His musical influences include Pino Daniele, De Crescenzo, James Senese, and other great artists of the New Naples. In 1985, he founded the Toledos Band with Agostini Martini and Antonio del Gaizio, a group that distinguished itself for its young members and the writing of original songs. He participated in Castrocaro in 1990 and at the Festival della Musica di autore di Napoli, winning the critics' prize for best lyrics. In 1992, he debuted as an author at the Teatro Roma in Portici with a new band. In 1994, he began his American musical contamination by collaborating with the Station jazz band of the U.S.A. Navy in La Maddalena (SS). He met the American jazz saxophonist AL Melone, with whom he recorded the tracks "Notorius" and "Stop me". From 1997 to 2001, he collaborated sporadically with Guido Lembo at Anema e core di Capri. In 2000, he founded the "Laboratorio Musicale Partenopeo" with Vincenzo Gargiulo, writing numerous scores for comic operas. In 2002, he recorded with the Afric Free, a Nigerian group, the single "Wind". In 2003, he collaborated with Pietro Lanacaprina in Livorno for the music of "Il Pugno chiuso di Dio". In subsequent years, he collaborated with French and Italian artists, performing with the Scarlatti Symphony Orchestra at the "Concerto per l'epifania" at the Rai Auditorium in Naples in 2009. In 2012, he began collaborating with Claudio Luongo and Salvatore Mignano who launched him into the national Italian music scene.
