The Marcels sono stati un gruppo vocale doo-wop americano attivo tra la fine degli anni '50 e l'inizio degli anni '60, noti per aver reinterpretato canzoni pop classiche in chiave rock and roll. Il gruppo si è formato nel 1959 a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, con Cornelius Harp al voce principale, Fred Johnson al basso, Gene Bricker, Ron Mundy e Richard Knauss. Il nome del gruppo fu suggerito da Priscilla, sorella di Fred Johnson, ispirandosi alla popolare acconciatura dell'epoca, la "Marcell wave". Nel 1961 hanno riscosso un enorme successo con una nuova versione della ballata "Blue Moon", caratterizzata dall'introduzione vocale "bomp-baba-bomp" e "dip-da-dip". Il disco ha venduto oltre un milione di copie, ottenendo il disco d'oro. La canzone è stata inclusa nella lista dei 500 brani che hanno plasmato il rock and roll del Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
