Leonard Norman Eliezer Cohen (Montreal, September 21, 1934 – Los Angeles, November 7, 2016) was a Canadian singer-songwriter, poet, novelist, and composer of Jewish origin. Considered one of the most influential singer-songwriters of the 20th century, Cohen achieved international fame for his musical style characterized by melancholic melodies and poetic lyrics that explored themes such as religion, love, loss, and spirituality. His artistic career spanned over five decades, during which he released 14 studio albums, selling millions of copies worldwide. Cohen began his career as a poet, publishing several volumes of verse before turning to music in the 1960s.
