Philippe Jaroussky (born 13 February 1978 in Maisons-Laffitte, France) is a French countertenor of international renown. He initially dedicated himself to the violin, winning awards at the Versailles Conservatory, before moving on to piano and finally to vocal music. Jaroussky is known for his virtuosic coloratura technique and for compelling and animated interpretations of Baroque cantatas and operas. His style has contributed to the renewed interest in early music in the contemporary musical world. Among his most representative pieces are "S'amor non è cosa mia" from Claudio Monteverdi's "L'Orfeo", "Ombra mai fu" from Georg Friedrich Händel's "Serse" and "Lascia ch'io pianga" from Händel's "Rinaldo". Jaroussky has collaborated with important musical ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants and the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique.
