Mac McCaughan is an American musician best known as the frontman and guitarist of the indie rock band Superchunk, active since 1989. Besides this main project, he founded Portastatic in 1993, another musical formation that explores more introspective and experimental sounds. McCaughan is considered a key figure in the American indie scene of the '90s, influencing generations of musicians with his direct and energetic approach to music. Superchunk has released numerous successful albums, including "No Pocky for Kitty" (1993), "Foolish" (1994) and "Here's to Shutting Up" (2001). Portastatic, on the other hand, has explored a more introspective and experimental sound, with albums like "The First Time I Saw You" (1995) and "The Sun Is a Star" (2003). Besides music, McCaughan is also a record producer and manages his own record label Merge Records.
