There's a fog that's settled in the hollow
At the bottom of our road
And the sky is so heavy with static
It's got nowhere else to go
Like the black dog that's waiting by the mailbox
Yeah he look for you to move
So you're frozen in the waiting
And you're hoping it won't be
For you to choose
Turn it upside down
Maybe every code has a key
Yeah walk backwards out of the dark
Eventually you'll get to me
And then we'll see
Our way free
You wrote letters in the pages of the art books
You kept stacked up on your floor
I received but never read them
I can prove it
I have them right here in this drawer
Because I'm happy in the margins
But you're too good
For this gothic little place
So put your art books on a bonfire and send me signals
That's what the smoke is for
Turn it upside down
Maybe every code has a key
Yeah walk backwards out of the dark
Eventually you'll get to me
And then we'll see
Our way free
