Tanta soledad, tanta falta
tanta lejanía
tanto no poder, tanta nada
tanta despedida
tan dolor de puertas cerradas
tan dolor que humilla
pero en tu piecita de lata
esa musiquita
Esa musiquita del pueblo
esa musiquita
tan arrastradita que suena
tan arrastradita
cómo te acompaña y te mece
cómo te acaricia
cómo te devuelve a la vida
esa musiquita
Gira con su sombra bailando
esa musiquita
vuela estremecida su falda
vuela estremecida
desde qué recuerdos la salva
mágica y sencilla
llena de temblores dulzones
esa musiquita
En la cara gris del espejo
ve la bailarina
su rubor de niña bailando
su rubor de niña
mientras sin pudores se abraza
a la melodía
de esa musiquita del alma
esa musiquita
Esa musiquita del pueblo
esa musiquita
tan arrastradita que suena
tan arrastradita
cómo la acompaña y la mece
cómo la acaricia
cómo la devuelve a la vida
esa musiquita
Haydée Mercedes Sosa (1935-2009) was an Argentine singer, considered an icon of Latin American popular music. Born in Tucumán, she began her career in the 1960s singing folk and traditional Argentine songs. Her powerful and emotive voice, along with her dedication to the fight for civil rights and peace, made her a prominent cultural and social figure in Argentina and worldwide. Sosa distinguished herself by interpreting songs by songwriters like Atahualpa Yupanqui and Víctor Jara, but she also composed some of her most famous songs, such as "Gracias a la vida" and "Alfombra verde". During the Argentine military dictatorship (1976-1983), Sosa openly opposed the regime, going into exile in several countries. After the fall of the regime, she returned to Argentina and continued to sing until her death in 2009. Mercedes Sosa is remembered as a powerful and unforgettable voice that has inspired generations of musicians and activists.
