He is known for being the founder and frontman of Diaframma, a musical group active from 1982 to 1995 and again from 2003 to present. Fiumani is the author of all Diaframma songs, characterized by an alternative rock sound with post-punk influences and Italian songwriting. Among the most representative tracks are «La mia vita», «Il cielo in una stanza», «Non c'è niente da fare» and «Un giorno».
