As the city asleep
Shares its dreams and desires
Every wish that we keep
Will trace a line to other times, other places
Though the song of the proud
Howls and dies, never fall for defeat
Take a trip to reprieve
Every hour they leave
From Killermont Street
Drink a drink to before
And our memories spill
Adding on as they pour
From our Saturdays and secret sensations
Drink a drink to tonight
Whisky words tumble down in the street
With the pain that they cure
Sentimentally yours
From Killermont Street
And with collar upturned
I made it south to see
That the love I had spurned
Was just the hate in me
As the ships and the steel
Slip away to the cry of 'compete'
There's a message for us
We can get there by bus
From Killermont Street
Fountains of Wayne are an American power-pop band formed in 1995 in New York. The group, consisting of Adam Schlesinger (vocals, guitar), Chris Collingwood (guitar, vocals), Jody Porter (bass) and Brian Young (drums), is known for their catchy pop-rock sound and often ironic and self-deprecating lyrics. Their biggest success was "Stacey's Mom", a single released in 2003 that reached number one on the US alternative charts and helped introduce the band to an international audience. Other notable tracks include "Red Tide" (from their debut album "Ugly Radio") and "Hackensack" (from the album "Welcome Interstate Managers"). Fountains of Wayne have released six studio albums, achieving moderate commercial success and a solid fan base. Adam Schlesinger, besides being the frontman of the band, also worked as a composer for film and television, winning an Emmy Award in 2018 for the soundtrack of the series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend". Schlesinger died in 2020 due to complications from COVID-19.
