Mercyful Fate is a Danish heavy metal band formed in Copenhagen in 1980. Considered pioneers of the black metal genre, they have profoundly influenced the subsequent music scene with their dark and theatrical sound. The group was founded by King Diamond (vocals) and Hank Shermann (guitar), who joined Michael Denner (guitar) and Timi Hansen (bass).
