Couldn’t keep the walls
From caving in
Looked beyond the loss
And I saw no end
Didn’t mean to be a disappointment
My friend
I told you years ago
I’m not heaven sent
Not heaven sent
This is what happens when
You tell your truth to the river
And it keeps on flowing by
You plant your flag on the summit
Just to turn around to find
It goes higher than the sky
It goes higher than your minds eye
This is what happens when
You raise your voice to the storm cloud
And the lightning strikes your boat
And you know there’s no hope for the willfulness
That kept your ignorance afloat
I’m sorry if you hate me now
Or if you pity my lot
But I’ll keep on singing
Like it’s the only thing I’ve got
Like it’s the only thing I’ve got
