Nino Rota (Giovanni Rota Rinaldi, 1911-1979) è stato uno dei compositori cinematografici italiani più importanti e prolifici di tutti i tempi. Nato a Milano, Rota si formò presso il Conservatorio di Milano, dove studiò composizione con il maestro Ildebrando Pizzetti. La sua carriera musicale iniziò nel mondo teatrale, componendo musiche per opere liriche e spettacoli teatrali. Nel 1940 entrò nel mondo del cinema, collaborando con registi come Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti e Vittorio De Sica. Le sue colonne sonore sono caratterizzate da un'atmosfera evocativa e malinconica, spesso arricchita da melodie memorabili che hanno lasciato un segno indelebile nella cultura popolare. Tra le sue opere più celebri figurano le musiche per i film *La dolce vita*, *8½*, *Il Gattopardo* e *Amarcord*. Rota ha vinto numerosi premi, tra cui due Oscar postumi per la colonna sonora di *The Godfather* (1972) e *The Godfather Part II* (1974).
