Sid Vicious, born Simon John Ritchie (London, May 10, 1957 – London, February 2, 1979), was an English bassist and singer best known for being a member of the punk rock band Sex Pistols from 1977 to 1979. Despite his short musical career and early death at the age of 21, Sid Vicious remains an icon of punk culture thanks to his anarchic lifestyle and provocative image. Before joining the Sex Pistols, Vicious was a fan of the band and worked as a clerk in a record store. After Glen Matlock left the group, Vicious was chosen to replace him, despite having no formal musical experience. His presence in the band contributed to strengthening the punk image of the Sex Pistols, characterized by aggressive music and provocative lyrics against society. Vicious participated in the recording of the album "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols", considered one of the most important albums of the punk movement. After the breakup of the Sex Pistols, Vicious embarked on a solo career with little success. His life was marked by addictions and legal problems. He died at the age of 21 from a heroin overdose. Some representative songs by Sid Vicious are: "Anarchy in the U.K.", "God Save the Queen", "Pretty Vacant".
